- Development of Smart Parking Management System using AI engine application service
- IoT-based smart monitoring solution that realizes unmanned and remote management
At the core of the mobility service that makes people move more conveniently, there are cars. Among them, parking is a service that creates the beginning and end of mobility services, and countries around the world are struggling to come up with solutions to realize smart parking. Particularly, unlike Korea, which has a well-equipped vehicle license plate system, an efficient license plate recognition system is crucial for smart parking support in foreign countries where the license plates are not standardized and vary greatly. SiliconCube developed an innovative parking management system by applying AI engine reinforcement learning technology to the recognition of foreign vehicle license plates that are difficult to access with the OCR (optical character recognition) method.
"Unlike Korea, parking fee settlement systems through vehicle number recognition are not used overseas," said Lim Jong-yoon, CEO of SiliconCube. "The biggest reason is that there are images on the license plate, or there are too many types of license plates, so the number plate cannot be read by general number recognition technology," he added. Lim also said, "In the Philippines, it usually takes about two years to receive the official license plate, so people there make their own license plate. In Japan, kanji and hiragana are mixed, so there are no license plate recognition solutions there."
To solve this problem, SiliconCube developed the reinforcement learning function of the AI engine and applied it to license plate recognition technology to develop the smart parking management system. This system is gaining great response in the Philippines and Japan, and SiliconCube has developed its own vehicle number recognizer (LPR: License Plate Recognizer), the gate blocking bar, and unmanned payment machine, which are additionally attached to the smart parking management system, and is supplying them to the market. The company is preparing to develop and supply solutions in the form of a platform so that the application cases can be expanded to parking lots and also unmanned inspectors and simple payment services through the smart parking management system.
From market research, the company discovered great needs for the system in many foreign countries including Japan, the US, Spain, and Germany. SiliconCube has already completed the supply to the Philippines, and declared Japan as the next target. It has completed the installation of the smart parking management system in Japan, and it is now in operation. It is the company's goal to enter the US and the North American market based on the reference in the Japanese market.
With this, SiliconCube has smart monitoring solutions as its main business. It can monitor the status of various devices in the parking solutions and factories and shops in the Philippines and Japan, and can control by AI. This smart monitoring solution is a solution that allows you to easily acquire status and environment information such as equipment and places from a remote location by using various types of sensors, and if necessary, the devices can be operated by AI. This solution can be applied to a wide range of places such as server rooms, IDCs, communication base stations, and convenience stores that require remote monitoring from time to time although they are not always occupied by people.
"Based on the consulting on base station management solution of V Telecom, a term telecom company in Vietnam, we provided base station management solutions such as monitoring the antenna angle of the base station, monitoring the battery and UPS in case of a power outage, and controlling the air conditioner to prevent overheating of base station equipment and started the business," said Lim. "Since then, by using this technology, the head office of a convenience store chain in Thailand can easily monitor the status of each chain and can offer an energy-saving solution to reduce electricity bills, and further development is made. We have built a lineup of various smart monitoring solutions," Lim added.
Also, the company is contributing to handling COVID-19 by developing a negative pressure transfer stretcher. This product is an infection blocking device to prevent infection through droplets that occur when breathing by infectious disease patients. The transport patient is kept in a negative pressure capsule while maintaining the negative pressure, and the air exhaled when the patient breathes is purified with a separate HEPA filter. This protects paramedics and medical staff in charge of transport and prevents the infection of others. This product was developed jointly with Seoul National University Hospital and University of Seoul's Urban Disaster Prevention and Safety Research Center as an opportunity to participate in government projects on solutions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases after the MERS outbreak in 2015.
As the market demand increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company urgently started production, and it is currently expanding supply mainly to overseas markets. It was designed to block the infection of the COVID-19 virus to medical staff, and was designed to fit the international ambulance standards, on top of meeting the criteria of the CDC's recommended standards of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). It can also provide emergency treatment during transportation with the glove port installed in there in case of emergency.
On the residence in Pangyo, CEO Lim said "There are many major IT companies in Korea, so we have a good environment for close cooperation with related companies," expressing satisfaction. He ended the interview by saying, "If networking and information exchange becomes more active among the resident companies in Pangyo, we will be able to brainstorm many innovative ideas that are totally unexpected. This will become the driving force for many companies in the future."
