[Int'l Green Energy Expo 2020] Longi Solar introduces bifacial half-cell module

2020-07-16, Jane Lee Reporter

Longi solar participated in the 17th International Green Energy Expo held at EXCO, Daegu from July 15-17 to introduce its new single crystal solar power module LR4-72HBD 425~455M, and upgrade of the popular model LR4-72HBD 435W.

Longi Solar, a global leader in high-efficiency single crystal cells and modules, was originally a semiconductor wafer manufacturer, but it has started developing and producing photovoltaic wafers since the announcement of the China Energy Policy in 2004. It now has a market share of 38% in the world's wafer market and over 17% in single crystal solar power module manufacturing.

The single crystal solar power module supplied by Longi Solar boasts the best solution in LCOE (levelized cost of electricity) which shows the average power generation cost per production electricity.  Especially in countries with a small area of land like Korea, high-efficiency solar power modules should be used. In this regard, the solar module of Longi Solar, which has a high cost/performance ratio and high unit power generation, is popular as a more optimized module for the Korean market.

About 260 patents have been acquired across wafers, solar cells, and modules, and Longi Solar, which has approximately 1,700 technical personnel, invests about 5-7% of its total sales in R&D. So its solar power module is about five years ahead compared to other companies' solar modules, and this is another key to keeping the performance and quality of Longi Solar's solar module more stable. The stability of products and quality makes Longi Solar's single crystal solar module a good product with low initial investment and high unit power generation for power plants, so it is recognized as an excellent cost-effective product.

The most notable new product of this Expo is LR4-72HBD 425~455M of Hi-Mo4 series, which is more compact and lighter than the existing products, and is an upgrade product with higher output. This new product, a bifacial half-cell module, has more than 10% higher output than the existing single-sided solar module, and unlike the single-sided solar module, which has difficulty in installation where there is a roof slope, it can be installed on the water and the roof of a building.

The bifacial module has more than 8% of the additional power generation on the back side, generating additional solar power plant business revenue. In addition, the output reduction rate in the initial first year is less than 2%, and a 30-year warranty is provided. By using 1500V voltage, BOS cost can be reduced. The optimized electrical design and lower operating current also reduce the risk of hotspots, making them popular.

Longi Solar has set the goal of selling 100Mw in the Korean market this year, and is planning to launch new products of 535W bifacial modules and 540W single-sided modules in the fourth quarter of 2020. In this year's show, Longi Solar's official dealers in Korea K-Land and RP5 joined.

The 17th International Green Energy Expo, hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do and organized by EXCO, KECA, KNREA, KOPIA, KWEIA, KHIA, and KOTRA, is the new and renewable energy business marketing platform where 300 companies from 25 countries participated in 2019, attracting 32,000 visitors. It is Korea's largest, third in Asia, and one of the top 10 solar power and ESS exhibitions. The exhibition sectors are as follows. △Solar power △ESS & batteries △Smart grid technology △Wind power △New and renewable energy
