On MWC Americas 2018, Mobience presented a new version of Rivo – the device to help the blinds' smartphone usability. Developed by Korean technology company Mobience, Rivo serves as a mobile Bluetooth keyboard with a handy size of a credit card for the people who cannot see screens of their smartphones. While the first model had availability to iOS users and English Android users only, Rivo 2 has a full support both for iOS and Android devices.
With compatibility to Apple VoiceOver and Android TalkBack, Rivo allows visually impaired people to type/edit texts and control music and audio on smartphones. The device has 20 keys – 12 middle keys with numbers arranged like people can find on classic phones and 4 additional keys on each side assigned for special purposes. With Bluetooth connectivity, Rivo can deliver the sound from the smartphone to its speaker. This function assists people with visual disability when navigating through smartphones with audible guidance from VoiceOver or TalkBack.
The device can help more than just blind people as it can assist disabled people who cannot move their hands properly on the touchscreen. People preferring old keypads more than a touch interface can utilize Rivo to keep their mobile life comfortable. Rivo can be used like an audio remote, great for commanding voice assistants with its microphone and speaker.
While its default interface is based on two-handed usage, Rivo has the One-handed mode that users can use Rivo vertically in a single hand. Rivo can remember up to six devices and can display its battery level – lasting more than a half month after 3 hours of charging. By visiting its official website, www.rivo.me, users can keep Rivo updated with newer firmware.
